"description": "In 1840, in Audincourt (Austria), at the Saint Stephen Factory, engineer Ebelman built the first downdraft gasifier in history, where the flame moves in the opposite direction. This gasifier, later used in wood gas vehicles, produced only 1g of tar per 1m³ of gas, whereas Ebelman's contemporaries built updraft gasifiers that produced up to 150g of tar per 1m³ of gas. It became possible to produce blue gas. Ebelman's discovery enabled the creation of low-tar gasifiers, making wood gas vehicles possible. Today, all gasifiers used for electricity generation operate on the downdraft principle.",
