The V8 427 engine was too expensive for mass production: in 1966, the company sold only 38 Ford Galaxie 500 with this power unit. Much more affordable was the new V8 FE 428 engine with a volume of 6997 cm3, which worked at low speeds and with a 4-chamber carburetor developed no less impressive 345 hp. It was installed on a special modification of the Ford Galaxie 500 7-Litre, available only in 1966. The series included a 2-door hardtop and a convertible, which were equipped at the Ford Galaxie 500 XL level, but had better performance and were equipped with front disc brakes. Nevertheless, the car lasted on the market for one year.
