Description
Production began in August 1961, a month before the presentation at the motor show. The first Volkswagen 1500 was produced in the sedan body of the "notchback" variety. This was followed by a variant with a station wagon body, the first cars were released in February 1962. Two convertibles based on the Notchback 1500 were also announced along with the original models, but were never put into production. In August 1965, a fastback version was introduced, 1,600 copies were produced. The model was upgraded in 1970, which increased the capacity of the luggage compartment by 42 liters. In addition to Germany, the assembly was also carried out in Australia and Brazil.
