Description
Vincent Willem van Gogh “Blossoming almond branches” 1890 Arles and Saint-Rémy, in the south of France, showing almond trees in bloom. Flowering trees were special to Van Gogh. They represented awakening and hope. He enjoyed them from an aesthetic point of view and found joy in painting flowering trees. The works reflected the influence of impressionism, divisionism and Japanese woodcuts. The painting “Blossoming Almond Branches” was painted in honor of the birth of his nephew and namesake, the son of his brother Theo and daughter-in-law Johanna.
