Mitsubishi Starion is a sports car of the era of turbocharged engines, competing with the Nissan 300ZX and Mazda RX-7. A year before its appearance, Mitsubishi had already tested turbocharging technology on the Lancer sedan, but the intercooler was added to the system only in 1984, so early turbocharged Mitsubishi suffered from overheating and prolonged "turbocharging". Nevertheless, the Mitsubishi Starion easily accelerated to 220 km/h. Its three-door coupe 2+2 body had the lowest coefficient of aerodynamic drag in its class - 0.32, mainly due to the wedge-shaped hood with pop-up rectangular headlights and a lower spoiler.
