Description
Lunokhod 1, the first remote-controlled lunar rover, was launched by the Soviet Union on November 10, 1970, as part of the Luna program. Equipped with cameras, scientific instruments, and a unique remote mobility system, Lunokhod 1 successfully landed on the Moon's surface on November 17, 1970, becoming the first robotic rover to traverse another celestial body. Over the course of its mission, which lasted for 11 lunar days (302 Earth days), Lunokhod traveled a total distance of approximately 10.5 kilometers across the lunar landscape. During its journey, it transmitted valuable data and imagery back to Earth, providing insights into the Moon's geology, surface conditions, and environment.
